Smooth body, creamy complexity
Located on the Mississippi River in Dubuque, Lock & Dam 11 was constructed between 1934 and 1937, and is located at River Mile 583.0 on the Upper Mississippi River between Dubuque, Iowa and rural Grant County, Wisconsin. Originally planned to be located above Specht's Ferry, Iowa, in 1933 the project was moved to Dubuque due to the high unemployment at the time. Employing as many as 901 people at one time, the lock and dam were constructed at a cost of $7,430,000, a sizeable sum for the 1930s.
