What Do We Mean by “Low Acid”?

Coffee acidity can mean two things:

  1. That bright, citrusy flavor you often taste in light roasts.
  2. The compounds that trigger heartburn or acid reflux in sensitive stomachs.

Our Approach to Low Acidic Coffee

Coffee is naturally acidic. But the right roast, bean, and brew can make a big difference. Our low acid lineup is made for comfort without compromise. Whether you’re drinking espresso or decaf, you’ll find rich, full-bodied flavor without the harsh finish.

When we talk about "low acid" coffee, we’re referring to how it feels on your stomach, not its exact pH level. Coffee acidity can mean two different things: the tangy, bright flavor notes often found in lighter roasts, and the compounds in coffee that may affect digestion.

At Verena Street Coffee®, we don’t make scientific claims about acidity levels. However, we consistently hear from customers who say our darker roasts are smoother and less likely to cause discomfort. Lighter roasts often have a more acidic flavor, while darker roasts tend to be richer and more balanced. Brewing method and strength can also influence how your coffee feels.

For those with caffeine sensitivity, decaf options can offer an added layer of comfort. Our decaf coffees use the Swiss Water Process, a chemical-free method that gently removes caffeine while preserving flavor. This process is often preferred by those looking for a cleaner, more stomach-friendly coffee experience.

Best Pick to Start With?

Shot Tower® Espresso is a fan favorite for a reason. Bold, balanced, and smooth enough for sensitive stomachs. It’s a go-to for low acid drinkers looking for flavor that holds up.

Low Acid Coffee That’s Big on Flavor, Easy on Your Stomach

If coffee gives you heartburn, you're not alone. Our customers kept searching for a rich, satisfying brew that didn’t wreck their stomach and they found it here:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Love it so much I subscribed.”
“I drink 10 to 12 big cups a day. I need a low acid decaf that still tastes like coffee. I researched and found three that were highly rated. I tried all three. This was the winner, so I subscribed. It's delicious, but easy on my teeth and stomach.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “My go-to.”
“This is absolutely the best 'everyday' coffee I’ve found, and I’ve tried quite a few! Works well in the Aeropress, French Press, and Moka Pot. Avoids the acidity of light roasts without succumbing to the charcoal flavor of many dark roasts. Impossible to dislike!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “I must be in Heaven!!”
“This is the most fantastic coffee I have tasted in years. I am always looking for low acid, caffeine-free coffee that tastes like it has a robust flavor... finally found it. The fragrance in the kitchen is intoxicating. Can’t say enough about this coffee.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Fantastic coffee! Smooth…”
“This was recommended to me and I love it! It has great flavor and is smooth without the after acid taste.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Great coffee.”
“Very smooth, flavorful, and non-acidic, probably the best coffee I have ever experienced!”

How is low acid coffee made?

Low acid coffee is made by selecting specific beans and roasting them to reduce acidity.
Darker roasting reduces the natural acids in coffee, which is why medium and dark roasts typically taste smoother and are easier on the stomach. Other factors like bean origin (lower elevations = less acidity) and brewing method (cold brew is naturally lower in acid) also play a role.

Is dark roast coffee less acidic?

Yes, dark roast coffee is generally less acidic. The longer roasting process breaks down acids in the beans, making the flavor smoother and easier on sensitive stomachs compared to light roasts.

Does low acid coffee have less caffeine?

No, low acid coffee does not necessarily have less caffeine. Caffeine content is determined more by the type of bean and brewing method than by acidity. While dark roasts (which tend to be lower in acid) can have slightly less caffeine by volume than lighter roasts, the difference is minimal. So you can enjoy low acid coffee without sacrificing your morning energy boost.
